The city of Barrie itself (heart of the same-name municipality due to Barrie being politically independent of the rest of Simcoe County) started as a simply collection of warehouses and homes that marked a trade point for the Aboriginal peoples that also became a star of the War of 1812. Barrie was a critical resupplying point for the British forces before they gallantly went into battle.
